DSCI Helped Dragon Maritime Begin the Transition to a Digital Supply Chain
The Digital Supply Chain Institute (DSCI) collaborated with member Dragon Maritime Group (now known as Danubia Holdings) to accelerate the transformation of the South-East Europe-based logistics company to a customer-focused digital supply chain.
The project was designed to help Dragon Maritime “flip” its supply chain from the back end of the business to the front side (the customer side) to be customer present. The project was based on DSCI’s Frontside Flip, a framework that integrates supply and demand by breaking down the silos between supply chain functions, marketing, product development, and data/IT to accelerate a digital shift.
The project kicked off in September 2023 with interviews conducted by the DSCI team, engaging both Dragon Maritime team members and customers. The goal was to identify strengths and weaknesses of Dragon’s supply chain operations to create new opportunities from what was identified.
In January 2024, the DSCI team traveled to Dragon HQ in Belgrade, Serbia to discuss the interview findings and potential solutions to offer increased value for current and future customers. The team conducted brainstorming exercises to identify transformation opportunities and to uncover the root causes of inefficiencies identified during the interview process.
The team visited the warehouse of one of Dragon’s largest customers to understand all end-to-end processes taking place and the tools Dragon employs for warehouse management. The team identified different solutions tailored to Dragon’s needs as it progresses toward a digital supply chain model.
As a result, DSCI recommended the company select two to three areas to transform operations, including an end-to-end visibility platform and data management platform to run across all of its subsidiaries. Dragon prioritized the development of a supply chain visibility platform to significantly enhance transparency and operational efficiency, while providing customers with real-time updates and 24/7 visibility of their cargo status, thus simplifying and expediting transactions.
Although the visibility platform was a major focus for Dragon, it represented just one facet of the proposed solution. The engagement helped Dragon unify its operations, anticipate customer needs better, and embrace digital supply chain solutions.
