As part of the Digital Supply Chain Institute’s (DSCI) 25 for 25 initiative, the TrailblazeHers Program celebrates and empowers women who are shaping the future of supply chain leadership. The program pairs emerging professionals with experienced mentors from around the world, creating opportunities for learning, collaboration, and lasting connection.
For Romina Rivas and Nikoletta (Niki) Schlag the TrailblazeHers experience became much more than a professional development opportunity—it became a shared journey of growth, confidence, and cross-cultural understanding.
Niki, who is the Implementation and Delivery Program Manager, eProcurement for Samsung SDS America, joined the program as a first-time participant, eager to learn from others in her field and expand her network. “It was really useful because the topics that came up were things I’d been thinking about but couldn’t quite define,” she said. “It was reassuring to realize I wasn’t alone in those challenges. The discussions and speakers helped me understand how to identify and address issues more confidently, and I still apply what I learned today.”
Working in supply chain operations at Samsung, Niki found the mentorship aspect particularly impactful. “Whoever paired us did an excellent job because we clicked right away,” she explained. “We come from different countries and cultures, so sharing those experiences—especially as I navigate working across Korean and European business environments—was eye-opening. Romina even recommended a book about working in Korean corporate culture that helped me so much. She also taught me to trust my abilities more and focus on how I deliver my message, not just what I’m saying.”
For Romina, who has served as a TrailblazeHers mentor for three consecutive years, the experience continues to be deeply rewarding. “Being a mentor has been inspiring and energizing,” she said. “The program creates a safe space to connect with purpose—it’s not just about sharing knowledge, but building trust, exchanging ideas, and empowering the next generation of women in supply chains.”
Over the years, Rominathe Logistics Director of Payless, has mentored women from Panama, Guatemala, and now Europe, gaining valuable insights from each experience. “Each cycle has deepened my appreciation for the power of diversity,” she reflected. “Mentorship is a mutual journey of growth and discovery. I learn as much from my mentees as they do from me.”
Both women agree that the TrailblazeHers program offers much more than professional development—it fosters a community of women supporting women, built on trust, shared learning, and encouragement. Romina continues to stay in touch with many of her former mentees, offering advice and support as their careers progress.
When asked what advice she would give to women considering joining the program, Romina’s answer was immediate: “Join with an open mind and a generous spirit. Whether you are a mentor or a mentee, you’ll gain more than you expect. You’ll build meaningful relationships and a renewed sense of purpose. TrailblazeHers is more than a program—it’s a movement that uplifts women and transforms the future of supply chains.”
Niki’s advice echoed that sentiment with her characteristic optimism. “Come with great expectations,” she said. “There’s nothing to lose—you’ll either learn something new or realize you already know more than you think. Either way, you’ll grow. I’m so glad I joined, and I’d love to come back next year as a mentor to help other women the way Romina helped me.”
As the TrailblazeHers program continues to expand globally, stories like Romina and Niki’s demonstrate how mentorship can inspire growth, connection, and confidence. Together, they represent what TrailblazeHers is all about—empowering women to lead, innovate, and transform the future of the supply chain industry.
